SEMH Pastoral Lead

Salary: £25,000-£28,000

Teaching Personnel are excited to have the opportunity to work with an outstanding school based in Brighton. The school are looking to take on a dedicated and passionate SEMH Pastoral Lead, In this role, you will be at the heart of student wellbeing, offering targeted pastoral support to pupils with SEMH challenges and contributing to an inclusive, supportive school environment.

Core Roles/Responsibilities

  • To teach / facilitate teaching and to provide pastoral support for a select group of higher needs students, to help these students address their social, emotional, mental health needs and their own general wellbeing needs (including attendance) and thereby remove barriers to academic progress.
  • Support the SENCo and pastoral team in the care for students and the administration of pastoral provision throughout the school. 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs, ideally in an educational or pastoral setting.
  • A strong understanding of mental health issues, behavioural management techniques, and safeguarding protocols.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and external partners.
  • An empathetic, non-judgmental, and patient approach.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, mental health, or counselling would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A passion for making a difference and promoting positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
