Location: Alternative Provision in New Ferry
Salary: 30,000-40,000 per annum

Start Date: January 2025 (or sooner)

A highly reputable Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking an experienced, dedicated Teacher of SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) to join their Alternative Provision based in New Ferry. This is a permanent position, starting in January 2025 or sooner, offering an exciting opportunity to work with a passionate team, supporting students with SEMH needs in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The Role:
The successful candidate will work with young people who require tailored support due to their social, emotional, and mental health needs. They will play a key role in creating a supportive learning environment that enables students to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with SEMH.
  • Developing individualised education plans (IEPs) to support the academic and emotional progress of students.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting students with positive behaviour interventions.
  • Working closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students.
  • Collaborating with the school’s multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver a well-rounded curriculum.
  • Providing pastoral care, building strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Promoting resilience and positive self-esteem in all pupils.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs, ideally within an alternative provision or SEN setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH and the associated challenges and strategies for support.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills with a positive and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • A genuine passion for working with young people facing barriers to learning.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications or training in SEMH, Trauma-informed practice, or SEND.
  • Experience in using restorative approaches to manage behaviour.
