A highly reputable and well-established group of SEN schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of SEMH to join their thriving Alternative Provision based in Gorton. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed educator to make a lasting impact in the lives of students with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.

About the Role:

The Teacher of SEMH will play a vital role in providing engaging and inclusive education for young people who have faced significant challenges in mainstream settings. This is a permanent position starting in January 2025, or sooner, depending on availability. You will join a supportive and dynamic team dedicated to nurturing students’ academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching to students with SEMH needs in a small class setting.
  • Planning and delivering creative and differentiated lessons that meet individual learning objectives.
  • Supporting the social, emotional, and behavioural development of students, working collaboratively with the wider team.
  • Managing challenging behaviours effectively, using a range of strategies to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring and assessing pupil progress and setting achievable goals.
  • Engaging with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each student.
  • Maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment that promotes well-being and learning.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Have experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in mainstream or alternative provisions.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH and have a genuine commitment to supporting their academic and personal development.
  • Be able to manage behaviour effectively, employing de-escalation techniques and promoting positive reinforcement.
  • Be flexible, resilient, and able to adapt to the individual needs of each student.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.
  • Be passionate about making a real difference to the lives of young people with additional needs.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in an Alternative Provision (AP), PRU, or specialist SEN school setting.
  • Additional qualifications in SEMH or related areas (e.g., Team Teach, Mental Health First Aid).
  • A background in supporting trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches.
