A highly reputable and well-established Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of SEMH to join their Alternative Provision based in Northampton on a permanent basis starting from January 2025 or sooner.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing tailored educational support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the needs of students with SEMH difficulties.
  • Foster a supportive and empathetic classroom atmosphere that encourages personal and academic growth.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals including teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and therapists.
  • Develop and implement individualised learning plans (ILPs) to cater to each student’s specific needs.
  • Manage challenging behaviours in a positive, constructive manner and maintain a calm, structured learning environment.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Support the emotional wellbeing of students and help them develop coping strategies for everyday challenges.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs, ideally in an Alternative Provision or SEN setting.
  • Strong understanding of effective behaviour management strategies tailored to SEMH students.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students with complex needs, fostering resilience and positive outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Dedication to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable students.
  • Experience working with multi-agency teams to support students’ educational and emotional development.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications or training related to SEN/SEMH.
  • Experience of delivering bespoke or vocational qualifications suited to Alternative Provision learners.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices.
