Key Responsibilities:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage with their education and manage the challenges they face. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with students who have SEMH needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and build self-confidence
  • Providing one-on-one support or small group interventions, focusing on emotional regulation, coping strategies, and social skills development
  • Assisting teachers in managing behaviour in the classroom, ensuring a calm and positive learning environment
  • Supporting students in both academic and pastoral aspects of their school life, including helping them develop strategies to manage their mental health and emotional well-being
  • Implementing personalised learning and behaviour plans, working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Encouraging students to engage positively with their learning and build resilience when faced with challenges
  • Providing feedback on student progress to teaching staff and contributing to reviews and reports on student development
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of SEMH-focused activities or interventions, helping to promote emotional well-being across the school

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with SEMH or other special educational needs
  • A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to working with students facing emotional and mental health challenges
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations
  • Previous experience in a similar role or background in mental health, counselling, or youth work is desirable but not essential
