Role Overview:

As the Head of Science, you will be responsible for leading the department, overseeing curriculum development, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4. This role is pivotal in helping students engage with science in a way that is accessible, enjoyable, and tailored to individual learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, and develop the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
• Oversee curriculum planning and assessment, ensuring lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of all students.
• Inspire and motivate students with a love for Science, promoting a positive learning environment.
• Work closely with the SENCO and other staff to develop individualized learning plans.
• Monitor and track student progress, implementing interventions where necessary.
• Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant policies, including safeguarding and health and safety.

Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong background in teaching Science.
• Experience in SEN settings (preferably with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs).
• Proven leadership and management experience within an educational setting.
• A passion for developing innovative and engaging Science lessons that cater to diverse learning needs.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

• Experience in an alternative provision or similar SEN-focused environment.
• Further qualifications in SEN or leadership.
