Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher
Location: Keighley, West Yorkshire

 

About the Role:
Do you have a passion for helping students with special educational needs reach their full potential? We are on the lookout for a committed SEN Teacher in Keighley who can provide tailored education and support to students, helping them succeed academically and emotionally. You'll work hand-in-hand with parents, fellow educators, and specialists to ensure each child gets the individual attention they deserve.

 

Main Responsibilities:

1. Assessment and Planning:

  • Carry out detailed assessments to understand the needs of each student.
  • Develop personalized Individual Education Plans (IEPs) based on their unique needs.
  • Set goals that challenge students while being realistic.
  • Continuously monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed.

2. Teaching and Learning:

  • Deliver lessons that are engaging and tailored to each student's IEP.
  • Modify teaching approaches and materials to accommodate individual learning styles.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where all students can learn.
  • Use diverse teaching strategies to keep students motivated and involved in their learning.

3. Collaboration:

  • Work closely with parents, carers, and external professionals such as speech therapists and psychologists.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to share best practices.
  • Attend regular meetings with the SENCO and other key team members to discuss progress and strategies.

4. Behaviour and Pastoral Support:

  • Implement strategies to manage behaviour and support students' emotional and social growth.
  • Offer both academic and personal support to students as needed.
  • Create a positive, nurturing learning space that promotes student well-being.

5. Administrative Duties:

  • Keep detailed and up-to-date records of each student's development and achievements.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for parents, carers, and relevant authorities when required.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal requirements and educational standards.

 

What You'll Need:

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Education or a relevant subject.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Any additional qualifications related to SEN, such as a SENCO qualification, would be a bonus.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is essential.
  • A track record of successfully developing and implementing IEPs is required.

Skills:

  • A thorough understanding of conditions like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a true commitment to supporting the emotional and academic development of your students.
  • Strong time-management and organisational abilities to handle the varied demands of the role.
