A highly reputable group of specialist schools is seeking a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teacher to join the team at their Tees Valley site. This is a full-time, permanent role starting in January 2025 or earlier for the right candidate.

This outstanding school group caters to children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, providing an inclusive and nurturing environment where all pupils can thrive. The successful candidate will be joining a dedicated, passionate team committed to transforming lives through education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH challenges.
  • Develop and implement bespoke learning plans tailored to the emotional, social, and academic needs of students.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, support staff, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s development.
  • Manage behaviour effectively using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to both students and parents/carers.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH or similar additional needs.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
  • Patience, resilience, and a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education.

Desirable:

  • Experience in specialist settings such as PRUs (Pupil Referral Units) or SEN schools.
  • Additional training in areas such as Team Teach, restorative practices, or trauma-informed approaches.
