SEN Teaching Assistant – Immediate start – Lewisham

Create education are looking for dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a growing team in Lewisham that offers a great place to work with an exciting curriculum and a team that provides, support and guidance. This SEN school is for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders from the ages of 4 to 19. This particular school is recognised as and outstanding hub for ASD support also [providing outreach support for children and their families in mainstream schools. The team work together seamlessly t meet the needs of all pupils within the school putting the pupil and family at the centre.

We are looking for experienced SEN teaching assistants with experience working with students with ASD. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills be creative, flexible and reliable. High levels of motivation, imagination and enthusiasm are a must and will allow you to build productive working relationships with the pupils. Working alongside the Class teacher you will need to provide support, addressing the needs of the pupils who have particular barriers to learning, as well as attending to the pupils’ personal needs and assisting in their social, health and personal hygiene.

Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant – Immediate start – Lewisham

  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment for a children with ASD
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses and progress against action plans through observation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies for learners with ASD
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings
  • Be aware of and support diversity and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs and provide advice to assist in their social, health & hygiene development
  • supervise pupils at times when they may not be able to work to a normal timetable
Person Specification – SEN Teaching Assistant – Immediate start – Lewisham
  • Experience working with SEN in particular students with SEN
  • English and Maths qualification at GCSE level or above.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • flexibility and reliability, high levels of motivation, imagination and enthusiasm to promote strong and effective teamwork
