Have you recently graduated from one of Psychology, Sociology or Psychotherapy and looking to gain invaluable experience in the SEN sector of education?
 
Create Education have partnered with an Ofsted GOOD rated SEN school based in the leafy borough of Greenwich. This Specialist school need three graduate SEN teaching assistants who can start immediately supporting 3 pupils on a 1:1 basis.
 
The school have historically recruited graduates/teaching assistants who aspire to either become teachers, educational psychologists or school counsellors. The schools we work with have taken several of our teaching assistants and provided them with the platform to become full time teachers through their teacher training programmes. Any aspiring Teachers, Educational Psychologists or Behaviour Mentors are encouraged to apply.

Job Specification –

  • As an SEN teaching assistant, you may work as part of a specialist team within a special needs school or within a mainstream setting.
  • During your role you may be involved in creating your own learning materials which will aid in your role with the students, or you may find yourself adapting to a certain child’s specific needs.
  • You will need to look out for each child’s physical, emotional and social welfare needs while also creating an environment that makes them feel comfortable and able to express themselves.
  • An important aspect of this role is your assistance with the implementation of specific Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) for students while working alongside teachers, parents and respective agencies.
 
Person Specification -
  • One of if not the most important qualities needed to be a successful SEN TA is As children with SEN may require more time and personal interaction, being patient is an imperative quality to possess.
  • Another very important quality of a good SEN TA is their ability to communicate effectively and in a manner that works well with children and adults respectively. This could mean that you can simplify otherwise complex information to your students.
  • If you see yourself as a creative type of person you will have no issues working within an SEN As an SEN teaching assistant, you’ll find that many children respond well to activities that are creative and stimulating, so being able to create new ideas and processes is an essential characteristic of a good SEN TA.
  • Working with children it is so important to have a good sense of humour. It can be a tough role at times so seeing the funny side of things will be helpful in making the kids you’re working with relax and ultimately make your job easier.
