A highly reputable special school in Swindon, Wiltshire, is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join their permanent staff list from September 2024. This esteemed institution is committed to providing outstanding education and support to children with special educational needs, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with a range of special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and delivering tailored educational activities and lessons.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students as needed.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs where necessary.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each student.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a special educational needs setting.
  • A strong understanding of SEN, including various conditions and effective support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain patient, empathetic, and flexible in challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs are desirable.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • A proactive and positive approach to continuous professional development.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience with specific SEN support tools and techniques.
  • Training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, or Team Teach.
  • Knowledge of the national curriculum and relevant SEN legislation.
