SEN Teaching Assistant – Wilmslow

Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow. This full-time position begins in October and extends until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance. The role offers a weekly pay of £419.25 - £500.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs. Working closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and teaching staff, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the educational and personal development of students with a variety of needs, ensuring they have the support required to succeed both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Support: Provide tailored one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN, helping them to engage with the curriculum and overcome learning barriers.

  • Classroom Assistance: Assist teachers in modifying lesson plans and classroom activities to accommodate the needs of SEN students, ensuring that all students can access the learning material.

  • Progress Monitoring: Keep detailed records of student progress, including their academic achievements and personal development. Use this information to inform ongoing support strategies and to communicate effectively with the teaching team and parents.

  • Behavior Management: Implement and support behavior management plans, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behavior and support students in developing self-regulation skills.

  • Inclusion: Foster an inclusive classroom environment by promoting the participation of SEN students in all aspects of school life, from lessons to extracurricular activities.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting each student. This includes attending meetings, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and implementing agreed-upon strategies.

  • Parental Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning and development at home.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly those with SEN, is highly desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic approach, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies and interventions, including experience with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior management plans.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with special educational needs and helping them achieve their full potential.
