SEN Teaching Assistant - Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position starts in October and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance. The role offers a weekly pay rate of £419.25 to £500.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and are fully integrated into school life. Your work will be key in helping these students overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Work one-on-one with students with various special educational needs, including learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, and physical disabilities. You will adapt teaching methods to meet their specific needs.

  • Classroom Assistance: Assist teachers in managing the classroom, providing support to SEN students during lessons. You will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

  • Development of Learning Materials: Collaborate with teachers to develop tailored learning resources and activities that align with each student's education plan. Your input will help ensure that materials are accessible and engaging.

  • Behavior Management: Support students in managing their behavior, implementing strategies that promote positive interactions and reduce disruptions. You will help students develop coping mechanisms and social skills.

  • Monitoring Progress: Keep detailed records of each student's progress, noting any challenges or successes. You will regularly update teachers and parents on the student's development, contributing to the ongoing assessment of their needs.

  • Personal Care: Where necessary, provide personal care support to students with physical disabilities, including assistance with mobility, feeding, and toileting, always maintaining the dignity and independence of the student.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other support staff to ensure a consistent and effective approach to supporting SEN students. You will also liaise with external professionals, such as speech therapists or occupational therapists, as required.

  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional and social support to students, helping them build confidence and resilience. You will be a key part of their support network within the school.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs in an educational or care setting.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students with SEN succeed.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to different situations and to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to take initiative and work independently when required.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, care, or special educational needs are desirable but not essential.
