Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support for Pupil with ASD)

Location: Blackburn, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time Only

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the skills and dedication to support students with Special Educational Needs in a mainstream setting? We are looking for a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at our thriving secondary school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with ASD, ensuring their emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum and engaging with classroom activities, adapting resources and teaching methods to suit their individual needs.
  • Promote independence, communication, and social skills through structured activities and support in both classroom and unstructured settings.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals to implement and review the pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Ensure a positive, inclusive learning environment that fosters the pupil’s confidence, progress, and well-being.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism or other Special Educational Needs (SEN), preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build a trusting, supportive relationship with the pupil.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviours.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusivity and helping the pupil achieve their full potential.
