A SEN School located in the London borough of Bromley is recruiting a experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to start Monday to Friday.

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: London Borough of Bromley
Salary: £85 to £95 dependent on experience
Shift Pattern : Full time - 8:30 to 4pm 

Do you have a passion for working with children with diverse needs? Are you ready to make a meaningful impact by supporting young learners with ASD, physical disabilities, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) difficulties, and complex needs? If so, we are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a school that we are recruiting for.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to deliver individualized support for children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), physical disabilities (including wheelchair users), SEMH difficulties, and other complex needs. This role requires a caring, adaptable, and proactive individual who can respond to each child’s unique needs and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to pupils, adapting activities and resources to meet their specific needs.
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior management strategies, and care plans.
  • Support pupils’ physical needs, including helping with mobility, personal care, and use of specialized equipment (training will be provided as necessary).
  • Use a range of communication methods, such as visual aids, Makaton, or PECS, to support children with ASD and communication difficulties.
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors using positive behavior support techniques.
  • Encourage social interaction and emotional well-being by leading or assisting in activities that promote teamwork, confidence, and resilience.
  • Collaborate with teachers and therapists to monitor pupil progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD, physical disabilities, SEMH, and complex needs, is highly desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of SEN support techniques, including behavior management strategies and tools for supporting communication and learning.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications in SEN support, childcare, or education are advantageous but not essential.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the school environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with personal care tasks and physical support, when required.
