Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and making a difference in their educational journey? Teaching Personnel’s SEN team is offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEN provision in York. This role involves providing individualised, tailored support to a student with autism, helping them to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially.

About the Role:
As a 1:1 SEN Support Assistant, you will work closely with a student who requires additional help to engage with the curriculum and navigate daily activities. Your main focus will be on assisting the student to overcome challenges and build skills that promote success in both academic and personal development. The role takes place within a supportive and specialised educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 Student Support: Offer personalised support to a student with autism, ensuring they are able to participate in learning activities and achieve academic targets.
  • Adapted Learning: Implement strategies tailored to the student’s unique needs, fostering both academic achievement and personal development.
  • Emotional and Social Support: Provide consistent encouragement, aiding the student in managing emotions, navigating social interactions, and boosting self-confidence.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside SEN specialists, school staff, and external professionals to ensure the student's personalised education plan (PEP) is effectively followed.
  • Promoting Independence: Encourage the development of the student’s independence both inside and outside the classroom, supporting life skills and self-management.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in SEN Support: Previous experience working with students with autism or other SEN, particularly within educational, healthcare, or social care settings, is desirable.
  • Empathetic and Patient: A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to working with students with autism, allowing them to progress at their own pace.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with the student and school staff, ensuring appropriate support is provided.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: A readiness to adjust your approach to meet the evolving needs of the student and handle any challenges that may arise.
