SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Lichfield

Hours: Full-Time (Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 3:30pm)

Contract: Temporary

Weekly Salary: £425 to £500

Teaching personnel are working closely with an outstanding specialist school in Lichfield who are looking for several SEN teaching assistants who are experienced working with Special Educational Needs and young people. The position is a full-time position Monday to Friday (8:30am to 15:30pm). The specialist school caters for pupils aged 7 – 18 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and associated conditions.

The school is based in a superb therapeutic setting and was awarded TES special needs school of the year in 2014. The school has exceptional facilities including a gym, food technology suite, music department and a car mechanics lab. Each individual has their own learning plan which is tailored to meet their own needs. The school’s curriculum is complimented by integral therapeutic activities delivered by the psychology and occupational therapy teams. Each class has no more than 8 pupils with a good pupil to staff ratio.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who is keen to inspire young learners by providing and supporting high quality teaching and enjoyable lessons, and to encourage them to make positive life choices. Ideally you will have some recent experience working within a school setting and be able to work with children with challenging behaviour.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the class teacher in the delivery of lessons
  • Providing 1:1 support to individuals who need additional help
  • Organising and collecting resources for the lesson
  • Being a positive role model to inspire and encourage the child to make positive life choices
  • Use enthusiasm to encourage children to become involved in lessons

Requirements:

  • Experience with Special Educational Needs (desirable)
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience with challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Willing to complete a DBS or have a DBS which is already on the update service
  • Have a passion for education.
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Adaptable and versatile
  • Eager to help vulnerable and young people to live happy fulfilling lives

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
