A high achieving secondary school in Harrogate is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join their team on a permanent basis starting from September 2024. Requirements:

  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Must hold QTS with substantial teaching experience.
  2. National Award for SEN Coordination: Ideally, candidates will hold the National Award for SEN Coordination or be willing to work towards it.
  3. Experience: Proven experience in a SENCo role or significant experience working with students with special educational needs.
  4. Knowledge: Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation related to SEN.
  5. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the provision for students with special educational needs across the school.
  6. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  7. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
  8. Commitment to Inclusion: Passionate about promoting inclusion and ensuring all students have access to a high-quality education.
  9. Safeguarding: Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school's SEND provision, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and support of students with special educational needs.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies and interventions to support the progress and achievement of SEN students.
  • Coordinate and lead the work of the Learning Support Assistants and other relevant staff.
  • Provide training and support for teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and learning for students with SEN.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective communication and support for SEN students.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school's SEN provision and contribute to whole-school improvement planning.
