A vibrant and inclusive primary school in Southwark, rated GOOD by Ofsted, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SENCO to join their team on a permanent basis from January 2025. The school prides itself on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to thrive.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the provision for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the school. They will work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that all pupils with additional needs are supported in reaching their full potential. The role involves overseeing the SEN provision, developing strategies to support pupils, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school’s SEN provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Identify and assess the individual needs of pupils with SEN, developing and implementing effective strategies and support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure that quality teaching and differentiated support is provided.
  • Liaise with external agencies, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and local authorities, to secure appropriate support and interventions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils with SEN, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on SEN best practices and effective classroom strategies.
  • Manage the SEN budget and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of SEN pupils and ensure timely communication with parents regarding their child's progress and support plans.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards the National Award for SEN Coordination.
  • A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the ability to implement it effectively within a school setting.
  • Experience working with children with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and a passion for supporting the learning and development of all pupils.
