Smile Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a mainstream school in Dudley. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage emotions and engage in learning.
  • Assist the class teacher in implementing personalised learning plans tailored to each pupil’s needs.
  • Support pupils with behaviour management, encouraging positive social interactions and emotional regulation.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, offering consistent emotional support and encouragement.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff to monitor progress and adapt support strategies.
  • Foster a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all pupils feel valued and safe.
Requirements:
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with children who have SEMH needs or other SEND.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Ability to build rapport with pupils and promote positive behaviour management.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
