Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant.

The role

As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be required to provide 1-1 support to pupils, adhering to their individual additional needs. You will assist with their learning by providing alternative approaches through sensory play and outdoor activities. You will be required to encourage the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school and enable pupils to become more independent learners. You will undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. You will also assist with the development of social and emotional skills and encourage positive behaviours, relationships, and outcomes.

The school

This is a specialist SEN Secondary school which caters for pupils aged 11-16 years who require additional support for their educational development and have an EHC plan. The school provides its pupils with additional support such as intervention sessions and 1:1 support staff to ensure they are all gaining essential life skills and progressing in their development in all areas. The provision has been recently refurbished and offers a range of additional facilities to aid with pupil’s development, and they take pride in the fact that the students are at the heart of everything they are trying to achieve.

           Requirements

  • Be available from May 2024.
  • Have a care / support / youth worker background.
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations and behaviours.
  • Have experience working to support children/ adults with additional needs- personal or professional.
