A large, successful secondary school in Newport is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join their SEN provision full-time. This exciting opportunity begins in November 2024 and will run through to the end of the academic year in July 2025.

About the Role:
This is a full-time role that requires commitment, compassion, and a strong understanding of special educational needs. Working alongside the SEN team, you will provide one-to-one and small group interventions for pupils aged 11-16. The role focuses on supporting students with various additional learning needs, including autism (verbal and non-verbal), ADHD, global developmental delay, and dyspraxia. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing academic support: Assist pupils with key subjects such as literacy and numeracy.
  • Fostering life skills: Help pupils develop independence and essential life skills to support their future success.
  • Tailored interventions: Offer one-to-one and small group sessions tailored to individual student needs within the SEN base.
  • Emotional and behavioural support: Provide pastoral care and guidance, helping students manage their emotions and behaviour in a positive manner.
  • Collaborating with staff: Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and other staff to implement learning plans and ensure the best outcomes for students.

  • Reliable and consistent: Able to commit to a full-time role from Monday to Friday during school hours (08:10-15:30), term-time only.
