Sports Graduate – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

Are you passionate about using sports and fitness to inspire young people? Do you want to make a positive impact on the lives of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated Sports Graduate to join our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), where you will support students facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Pay: £84+ per day - paid directly through PAYE weekly with no agency fees or umbrella schemes.

Both full-time and part-time position available. 8.30 - 3.30.

Role Overview
As a Sports Coach / Graduate a PRU, you will be a positive role model, supporting students aged 11-16 who may find traditional education challenging. You will assist in engaging students in a range of subjects, providing encouragement and support to help them succeed both academically and in vocational skills. By promoting physical activity and the positive effects of fitness on mental health, you will help students build confidence, resilience, and social skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in a variety of subjects, helping to facilitate learning and engagement across the curriculum.
  • Encourage participation in physical activities and highlight the mental health benefits of fitness to promote well-being.
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel valued and motivated.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to identify individual needs and provide tailored support.
  • Assist in promoting healthy lifestyle habits, helping students develop better self-esteem, resilience, and coping skills.
  • Support the development of vocational skills and help students progress towards their individual goals.
  • Help manage challenging behaviors in a calm, constructive manner, using physical activity as a tool for emotional regulation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, Youth Work, related field, or equivalent experience highly desirable.
  • Experience working with young people
  • An understanding of how physical activity can positively impact mental health and well-being.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with students and staff.
  • A flexible and proactive approach, capable of adapting to students' varied needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
