A fully inclusive comprehensive secondary school in Bath is seeking a permanent Student Inclusion Mentor to work within their pastoral team.

The Student Inclusion Mentor plays a critical role in supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties, aiming to reduce disaffection, non-attendance, suspensions, and exclusions. The role involves 1:1 mentoring, group interventions, and working closely with pastoral leads to foster a positive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and group interventions for students with behavioural and emotional challenges.
  • Support the pastoral team and manage the exit room for student interventions.
  • Work closely with the DHT Pastoral and Heads of Key Stage to assess student needs and implement targeted support.
  • Keep detailed records of student progress and the success of intervention strategies.
  • Foster positive working relationships with students and their families, promoting safeguarding and well-being.
  • Assist in developing support plans for at-risk students, including those on managed moves.
  • Support reintegration efforts and provide intervention for school refusers.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential: Experience working with secondary school-aged children, excellent numeracy/literacy skills, and a good understanding of child development.
  • Desirable: NVQ Level 3, specialist training (e.g., literacy, dyslexia), Thrive Practitioner qualification, and knowledge of the national curriculum.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong ability to relate to children and adults.
  • Organised and precise in record keeping.
  • Able to remain calm and resilient in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
