Trainee Teaching Assistant

Primary School in Birkenhead (CH43) Commencing October 2024

A larger-than-average primary school in Birkenhead is looking to appoint a Trainee Teaching Assistant within their early year’s foundation stage setting. Over the past two years, the school has successfully appointed three teaching assistants who are currently studying or have recently completed a teaching assistant qualification. Due to this, the Head Teacher has reached out to Teaching Personnel to address their recruitment needs.

Role Overview:

As a trainee teaching assistant in early years, you will provide support to teachers in preparing for lessons and help create a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all pupils at the start of their primary education journey. During lessons, you will work alongside the class teacher to support pupils with classroom activities, help manage behaviour, and promote independence and learning. Excellent communication and enthusiasm will be key in supporting all pupils to progress, achieve, and overcome any challenges. You will support all areas of the curriculum, including English, maths, and phonics.

Role and Expectations:

  • Support pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons and clear away afterwards.
  • Assist the teacher in managing pupil behaviour and report any difficulties.
  • Help pupils understand lesson instructions.
  • Support pupils in various subjects, including English, maths, and phonics, as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils at lunchtimes.
  • Comply with all necessary policies and procedures relating to child protection, equality and diversity, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Details of the Role:

  • Hours: 8:30 – 15:30, Monday – Friday
  • 30 minutes welfare duty
  • Open to educators currently studying a TA/CACHE/Childcare qualification
  • Pay range: £12.90 – £13.50 per hour

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
