Unqualified Specialist Teaching Assistant

A specialist school based in Preston are recruiting for support staff for a September start. The provision is a mixed primary and secondary SEN, school committed to making a difference to the learning, wellbeing and life prospects of all of its pupils.

The school is dedicated to empowering pupils with knowledge, self-belief, life skills and strategies appropriate to their learning differences as well as promoting positive mental health, to ensure they can go forward with confidence and respect for others into adulthood.

As a specialist teaching assistant, your main duty is to provide exceptional care and support to all of your pupils in your presence. You will be required to help the general classroom teacher with planning and delivering of lessons to small groups or working 1:1 with pupils. If you are confident and have had experience supporting adults and children in a personal or work setting then you could be perfect for the job. Your experience does not have to be in an educational setting but you must be willing to learn and adapt to this environment.

Main Duties

  • Ensure that all children feel safe, that they are secure and confident in the support you are giving them.
  • Provide a clean, safe and well cared for school environment, of which pupils and parents can be proud.
  • Promote pupils cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and physical development and spiritual well-being through the schools curriculum.
  • There may be situations that arise where you will have to handle and deesceltae challenging behaviour, or provide basic personal care.
  • Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting pupils progress according to the schools policies.

Key Information

  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday (8:30-3:30pm) start date ASAP or 1st September 2024.
  • Term-time only role.
  • PAYE contract.
  • Primary and secondary SEN Provision.
  • Preston based, PR5. 
  • Competitive hourly rate of pay of £12.90+ per hour depending on experience and additional duties.
