Smile Education is seeking a passionate and dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school in Oldbury. The role’s primary focus is on supporting pupils with their phonics knowledge, helping them build essential literacy skills for their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to Year 1 pupils, with a strong emphasis on phonics and early literacy development.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging phonics lessons, using structured programmes such as Letters and Sounds or Read Write Inc.
- Monitor and assess pupils' progress in phonics, offering tailored support where needed.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring every child feels supported.
- Help with classroom preparation and assist in creating phonics-based learning resources.
Requirements:- Previous experience working with children in a classroom setting, ideally within Key Stage 1 (KS1).
- A strong understanding of phonics teaching methods and early literacy development.
- A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting young learners.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
